Clubs & Athletics

Organized sports are an integral part of the education we offer at George Gervin Prep Academy. Our physical education program ensures that all students enjoy the benefits of exercise, while learning important life lessons about teamwork, discipline, and good sportsmanship.

Physical activity can positively affect aspects of personal development among young people as well, such as self-esteem, goal-setting, and leadership. Physical activity also helps to develop and improve cognitive skills and improve academic achievement, including grades and standardized test scores.

Extracurricular sports activities vary throughout the year, and our teachers are our coaches. Student athletes must maintain good academic standing and demonstrate model citizenship in all their school and extracurricular activities to remain eligible for sports.

We offer seasonal sports to students from 6th-8th grade only.

  • Fall: Volleyball and Flag Football
  • Winter: Boys Basketball
  • Spring: Girls Basketball and Co-ed Soccer

Wellness Policy

Children need access to healthy foods, and opportunities to be physically active in order to grow, learn. and thrive. Good health and plenty of rest promotes good student attendance, and helps the students stay focused and alert during class.

Student Council

George Gervin Prep Academy Student Council represents the voice of our students. They help to organize community service projects, arrange school-wide special activities, and provide input on school decisions.

The goals of our student council are:

  • Helping people in need; senior citizens, orphans, and the homeless.
  • Motivate positive relationships to prevent bullying.
  • Educate others to avert vandalism and graffiti and respect the property of others.

Participating in this elective is a privilege and requires students to adhere to all school rules and keep a certain grade point average. Students in grades 5th-8th are eligible to participate.

After careful consideration, George Gervin Prep Academy will be closed to students until further notice beginning March 16, 2020, in order to help contain the spread of COVID-19 in our community. During this time, our school leadership will continue to stay updated on the COVID-19 situation in our county, state, and nation.

We want to assure all families and staff that this decision was made only after thoughtful consideration of the facts and the potential impact on our community. We will continue to communicate and provide updates regarding alternative and digital learning for students and timeframe of reopening the school.

Again, GGPA students will not return from spring break next week. We will continue to post updates on our web page, our telephone Smart Call system, Facebook, and Class Dojo.

Thank you for your patience.
